"Kannawidan Festival"
Ilocos sur is a beautiful province located
in the northern part of Luzon. It is a province rich in culture and traditions
that represent the ancient Spanish and Filipino culture. And to show and share
their treasured cultures and tradition to the world they celebrate the
"Kannawidan Festival"
The Kannawidan (local
term for traditional practice) festival was also an occasion to strengthen the
Ilocano culture, recognize Ilocos Sur’s sons and daughters who brought honor to
the province, celebrate abundant harvest or just to celebrate the Ilocano
spirit that continues to drive locals to boost the province. Various
festivities were staged from trade, agriculture, aqua and livestock while a
display of farm products opened the 17-day festival. Tradition was also found
in the culinary treats that residents prepared including delicacies that Ilocos
Sur is known for. It is a celebration that lasts from the last week of January
up to the first week of February.
On the opening day,
there is a lot of people joining the procession and viewing the shows. It the
way of ilocanos to show their vast culture to everyone.
One interesting event of the festival is the annual “Pinaka”contest
where locals exhibit their amazing farm and fishery products and livestock.
Another activity that catches the attention of the visitors is the gathering at
Vigan Plaza Hotel, where Ilocos Sur comes back to the olden times and
participants wear their old-fashioned dresses as they party to the tune of old
songs and drown in the memories of old Ilocos.
And last, this festival isn't just
also for fun but has the mission to introduce to younger children's the culture
of their on land. And there are also different contests that focus on the
ability and skills of children's to sharpen about there own place. It is an
enjoyable festival that has, o be appreciated by everyone and to participate
in.
