"Resiliency; A simple solution to a Disaster problem"

When faced with obstacles in life, how does a person adapt? Why do people frequently bounce back to the tragic events that happen in their lives? How Resilient are you in case of disaster?

It is estimated that the Philippines multi-hazard average annual loss is US$ 7.893 million, which is equivalent to 69 percent of expenditure in the country. This is because the Philippines is the fourth most at risk country in the world in terms of climate-related natural disaster. Philippines experience an increase of typhoons, earthquakes, and extreme temperature, which creates problems to its citizens.

Example of disasters that Philippines faced in the past years is the Super Typhoon Haiyan(Yolanda) on November 2013 and the 7.2 magnitude Bohol earthquake just weeks before the typhoon. This two disasters creates a big impact on our nation. It causes loss of lives, infrastractures, decrease of economy, and increase of poverty. Despite this issues the country still manages to sustain its economic momentum as its Growth Domestic Product (GDP) increase up in a rate of 7.2. Why? This is because of disaster Resilience.

What do we mean by RESILIENCE?

Resilience, according to Pyschologists is the capability of one individual or even a nation to adapt and recover quickly when faced with tragedy, challenges, natural disasters, school problems and many more. Resilience is how well a person can adapt more quickly and with less stress.

Being Resilient is a characteristic that a person must obtain in order to cope up in the continous changes in life. Being Resilient helps in case of disaster and other problems, as it helps a person to adapt more quickly with less stress. Thus making a person deal with challenges in a good and better way. Everybody has Resiliene and is Resilient it is just a question of how well and how much you put it in a good use in your life. But it does'nt mean that if a person is resilient he/she does'nt feel the intensity of the problem. It simply means that the person is resilient by which he/she finds a better and good way of dealing with his/ her challenges and problems.

A country that is Resilient in case of disasters  and other challenges, even how many disasters it may face will always rise up and grow and sustain its economy. Resiliency helps in dealing with challenges and problems for it may be a simple solution to a disaster Problem.
