Essence of Christmas

Everybody has its own priorities and perspectives in life. Some people wants material thing while others wants the simple but memorable ones. Christmas is full of stories and Christmas stories cannot be found in books but in the heart and soul of those who experienced it.

For many people, Christmas is a time of sorrow. They don't have the extra money to buy presents for their children, family, and friends. Many are saddened at Christmastime when they think of their loved ones who will not be able to come home for various reasons. Turkey dinners may be only a wish and not a reality for some.
Yet, Christmas can be a season of great joy. It is a time of God showing His great love for us. It can be a time of healing and renewed strength. You see, Christmas is when we celebrate the birth of the Christ child. God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to be born. His birth brought great joy to the world. Shepherds, wise men, and angels all shared in the excitement of knowing about this great event. They knew this was no ordinary baby. The prophets had told of His coming hundreds of years before. The star stopped over Bethlehem just to mark the way for those who were looking for this special child.
Christmas is best enjoyed when it is not centered in decorations, gifts and festivals. It should be meaningful and memorable. We must center it in the sharing of blessing that we receive in the last eleven months of the year and the most happy things that we id to make our life full of excitement. Anyway, the essence of Christmas is to share and to love everyone. God does not expect great things, we only need simple things with great love. It is a time of strengthening bonds and showing love to everyone. A best time to show it especially to our family.

Christmas is not all about merry making. We must also spare time to reflect on the essence of the period which is the love of God for humanity. This unquantifiable love is summed up in the popular bible verse John 3: 16 “For God so loved the world that he gave us his only begotten son, that whosoever believe in him will not perish but have eternal life.”When we ponder on God’s love for us, we too are encouraged to share love with others, to embrace peace and be our brother’s keeper. When we are imbued with this love of God, we will be always willing to give a helping hand to those in need, to give succour and comfort to the vulnerable ones among others.

Whichever of these are important to you this holiday season, just remember that it’s the thought that counts and that love is the most important thing in the world. When love governs our hearts and minds, everything will follow and we don’t need to wait for Christmas time to share our love to other people.
